Veterans and Auxiliary members with Protivin ties march up the hill to church as the
band plays in front of the old fire hall to honor the memory of those that have passed
on...on Memorial Day 2018 in Protivin, Iowa.  Yes, that is
Santa Claus in the red who
stopped by incognito making his yearly off season visit to town to make sure all that
were there will end up on the "Nice" list next Christmas.  See more of the march to
the right and left.
The "Gun Salute" at the "Holy Trinity Cemetery" followed by the playing of "Taps" to
honor the fallen soldiers.  Each of the crosses placed is for a veteran from the
community that has passed away with their names on it.  The flags fly at half-staff
from sunrise to noon on Memorial Day to honor those
"Who Gave All"!

Wow!  70 Years Recognition (and she doesn't look a day over 60) to Charlotte
Pecinovsky
who has been a member of the Protivin Legion Auxilary for 70 Years
The boys have a ways to go to catch up with Charlotte, but 50 years isn't too bad.
David Pecinovsky above and Ernie Fencl with his wife Martha below received
recognition for being 50 year members of the Protivin American Legion.
The Brothers Four...No its not a new Bar in town.  It's the 4 Fencl brothers who all
served in the military.  From left to right
Ernie, Leonard, Vic, and Jim.  Proud
veterans and the town and area are mighty proud of their commitment and service to
their country as well as the Protivin American Legion.  By the way, Ernie earned a
"Purple Heart" during his service in Viet Nam.
Yes that is Santa Claus in the back of the church
making a list of all who attended church on Memorial Day.  If you were there you can
expect something extra in the sock this year!
The Howard County
"Freedom Rock"
was dedicated on June 23, 2018
